School Advocacy & Support

Connecting with a Nationally Certified School Psychologist will help clarify the complexities of educational support, empowering you to advocate effectively for your child’s unique needs and ensuring they access the right resources and opportunities.

Terms to know:

IDEA stands for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, a federal law ensuring free and appropriate education for children with disabilities.

Under IDEA, children with disabilities may be eligible for an Individual Education Plan (IEP), a tailored educational program that includes specialized instruction and related services, as well as accommodations.

504 accommodations ensure the educational environment or workplace is accessible for qualified individuals with disabilities, protected under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.  IEPs and 504s are mutually exclusive entities.

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) interventions are key in addressing academic or behavioral challenges.  Any child can receive MTSS interventions for academic and/or behavioral concerns, if warranted.

Why Is This Helpful?

Gaining insights into these educational components not only empowers you but also makes the educational journey less daunting for both you and your child. You'll feel more confident in making informed decisions, ensuring that your child’s learning experience is as rewarding and supportive as possible. For a deeper understanding and personalized guidance, consider engaging with our testing or consultation services—we’re here to support you every step of the way.
